We went to Gallup NM for Thanksgiving. It was a wonderful trip and we always love spending time with my sister-in-law Heather and her family. My kids really love her kids so it is a happy experience for all. The 5 hour drive is not fun, but goes pretty fast. Our dinner was super yummy, Heather out did herself. My parents joined us and Trevor and Jessica were able to come too. We played lots of games, the kids went to see Madagascar 2 and the then the teens went to Twilight that night. We stayed Friday and did a little shopping in the evening, I don't do the morning stuff, too much of a frenzy for me, even in Gallup. We came home Saturday and started putting up Christmas stuff. All in all, an awesome turkey day. Thanks Heather and John. Here are a few pics from the trip. The first one is me in the snow. It snowed about 15 minutes. The 2nd is Jordon, Lance and Kyle. They have frosting mustaches.
This is my mom and I want you to notice Heather's huge Christmas village, more than 50. Yes, it has become an obsession, but really fun to look at. The next is post feast, Mom, Sterling and John cleaning up. And the last is out the front window of the car on the way home. This is on the freeway, the fog and ice were pretty bad. We were happy when the sun came out to warm it up.
Kevra had her orchestra concert on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. They sounded good. She and I went to do some shopping last Saturday, it was fun to spend some time with her. Jordon had his choir concert on Wednesday and I was super impressed with them. They really sounded great, nice and loud, knew all the words. He also had his play 'Newsies" on Thursday and they did a really nice job, you could tell they all knew their parts and what to do. Jordo
n was a bad guy and got to throw a few fake punches and fall on the ground. He loves falling. He was so tired last night. Kevra, my mom and I went to see the Nutcracker last night, we go every year, it's tradition. We go out to dinner and then go. We have been going since she was 3 years old. I thought she would want to stop, but every year she says we have to go. I really enjoy it cuz I love the ballet. We go to the one in Mesa, so it is a little cheaper and I like all the little kids in it. Also, now Kevra has a few friends that are in it so it is fun to watch for them when they come on stage.
I have one more week of school. I can't wait to be done. We got the house all decorated, it looks so pretty. We did our tree different this year. We usually have it covered with ornaments that the kids have and we have aquired over the years, but Kevra wanted to do a color theme and so last year after Christmas I bought lots of red and gold stuff. We had fun looking for things, so it really didn't cost us that much. It is really pretty, you can see a little of it in our Nutcracker pictures.
What are some of your Christmas traditions at your house or when you were growing up? Denise said she is making pjs, my mom and I always made matching nightgowns. Kinda corny, but some great pictures and lots of great memories. We watch 'The Christmas Story' as we put up the tree, every year. We are looking for some new Christmas Eve traditions since we no longer go to my sister-in-laws. Any ideas?

We always got a new game on Christmas Eve, and we'd stay up late playing it. It was the one present we opened on Christmas Eve and we always looked forward to it. And I think it probably kept us busy while mom and dad got the last minute stuff done.
We would set out a candle on Christmas Eve for the elf to light to let us know that Santa was on his way. Once the candle was lit, we'd get to open one present, have Christmas cheer (eggnog & 7-up mixed) and a chocolate, then we went off to bed.
On Christmas day, we'd all meet in my parents' room. My dad would go out first, turn the tree lights on and build a fire. He'd come back, we'd have family prayer then go see what Santa brought.
When we were a little older, my mom started collecting Christmas books. Before the 1st of December she'd wrap all the books and put them in a basket. We'd get to open one book each night.
We had lots of fun traditions. Some we're already doing and once I get my book collection, we'll be doing that as well. :)
Christmas Eve at my parent's house we all sat around and someone read the book "The Forgotten Carols" out loud and then we listened to the CD when it came time for each song. I really liked that...if I had the book and CD we'd definitely start doing that this year.
shame on you for not coming to see me :p probably a good thing since we were all sick. are you going to linda's for sunday dinner? we will be there so it would be great to see ya. love ya
